What is it?
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the central location of the retina, called the macula, which is the area responsible for detailed central vision.

AMD is a leading cause of blindness in North America among adults over age 55. The likelihood of developing the condition increases with age.

Symptoms of AMD include distortion and straight lines that appear wavy. There can also be areas of blur in central vision and a loss of contrast.

There’s no cure for AMD but early detection and treatment with intravitreal injections of drugs can slow the disease’s progress.
