In Ontario, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers free eye exams for children 19 years or younger: 

• Frequency: One major eye exam every 12 months, plus any minor assessments needed 
• Age: Children should have their first eye exam at 6 months old, and a second exam between the ages of 2 and 5 

Eye exams can help identify conditions like: myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.
